Car parking for people with mobility needs is available in front of the building 4 metres from the main entrance. The surface is tarmac and level. There is a ramp to the front door and the building is accessible for people using walking aids, wheelchairs or small mobility scooters.
The building
All the rooms within the building are on one level with no internal steps or level changes.
The living areas and dormitories are carpeted. The lobbies and shower rooms have solid concrete floors.
Your own wheelchairs and mobility aids may be used within the building.
There is a step to exit the building from rear lobby. However, the back of the building can be accessed via the ramp from the front door and a tarmac path.
Toilet and shower/wet room
There is a toilet/shower room designated for people with additional mobility needs. The doorway is wide to accommodate wheelchairs and inside there is space to turn a wheelchair.
There is a high seat toilet with rails and the wash basin is a suitable height to accommodate a wheelchair.
The shower has a fitted seat which can be lowered as required. There is a grab rail fitted to the wall. An additional waterproof chair is available.
A call bell has been installed in case of emergency. The alarm sounds in the main living room.
Living areas
The open plan sitting and dining areas provide space to use a wheelchair or other mobility aids. The dining tables can accommodate a wheelchair. Chairs in the lounge area are mostly low but there are also two high seat chairs with arms.
There are currently no specific adaptations for wheelchair users in the kitchen.
The dormitories
There are 4 dormitories accommodating 4 or 6 visitors in bunk beds. The upper bunk beds are accessible only by ladders. The lower bunks have restricted headroom.
Space inside each dormitory is limited and there is not room to turn a wheelchair.
The short corridor between the dormitories can accommodate a wheelchair but there is insufficient space to make a full turn.
To make sure visitors can exit the dormitories quickly in case of fire, there is a portable ramp by the emergency fire exit.
The garden and main carpark
The garden and main carpark can be accessed by a tarmac path and ramp. The surface is mown grass which is level but uneven in places.
The fire assembly point can be accessed via a ramp and tarmac path.
The BBQ is close to the tarmac path but is situated on the grass lawn.
